SlowCAM

CONCEPT of "slow" web-cam is somewhat opposite of surveillance cam. It would not be focused on activity of people moving in front of it, but on static objects in environment like buildings, streets, public signs, billboards and similar. Motion would make all “alive” automatically removed/blurred out from image – similar effect was with tube cameras. System would have on-spot open access (through wireless interface or screen).

OBJECTIVE is to develop a standalone video cam/computer system that would be used for observing changes in public spaces over a longer period of time and would continuously stream and archive results on web, while removing temporary and "irrelevant" changes out of static video image.

UTILIZING of such setup could be made for sites where public spaces are changing without being recorded. Due to its "poetic" aspect of removing temporary visual disturbances, video stream would be interesting for both locals who are well acquainted with the local environment as well as outsiders.

RESULTS based on real-time processing of video are hard to predict, but could be of similar aesthetic as those made by stop frame animation, though all moving objects would be slightly blurred on their edges - while static or semi static object would have high level of clarity.

FOLLOW UP of the project could be web based service/software for production
a series of short movies (linear sniplets, slide shows, integrated hyperimages...) from footage/material of systemic camera recordings, that would enable producing of integrated and media http://pr0be.info/CompilingMovies
